Education

Education has always been regarded as important towards building the economy of a nation. Singapore, the little red dot in the world map, has always place strong emphasis in ensuring the next generation continue to receive good education. Over the years, the education system in Singapore has been highly regarded and ranked as one of the best in the world.

On an average, a Singaporean child will start to receive pre-school education from the age of 3 years old to 6 years old. The three years are commonly called Nursery, Kindergarten 1 (K1) and Kindergarten 2 (K2) respectively. Parents will be spoilt for choices as many pre-school centres are setup across Singapore to ensure the young generation have a good start ahead, prior to administration to primary school.

Primary school starts from age of 7 to 12 with a good 6 years with the school receiving fundamental education. It is mandatory for a Singaporean child to receive minimum 6 years of primary school education. The child will sit for PSLE (Primary School Leaving Examination) at the end of the 6 years education. He/She will then decide which Secondary school to attend based on the PSLE results.

The education journey of the child after attaining PSLE certification will proceed to secondary school, a 4 or 5 years track based on the results. The child on an Express 4 years track would end up sitting for GCE “O” Level before proceeding to either Junior College or Polytechnic education.

A child on the Normal 5 years track would sit for GCE “N” level at the end of 4 years. Those on Normal “Academic” would procced to pursue GCE “O” level with good GCE “N” level results on the 5th year. Those on Normal “Technical” would proceed to pursue higher learning with ITE (Institute of Technical Education).

A child receiving Junior College education will spend either a 2 years or 3 years before sitting for GCE “A” level. Thereafter, the child will pursue either a university or polytechnic education based on the GCE “A” level results attained.

A child receiving Polytechnic education will attain a Diploma certification at the end of a 3 years learning journey. There have been a wide variety of courses in different fields as well as specialized ones a child can choose from, depending on his/her GCE “O” level,  GCE “A” level or ITE results.

In today’s digital economy, stronger emphasis has been made to ensure the workforce continue to upskill and stay relevant. There have been various learning institutions setup to offer vast and wide range of programs targeting at PMETs. One can choose to upskill in the area of digital marketing to project management.

The education landscape in Singapore does not confine to government administered institutions. Singapore is an open economy that attracts foreign investments and businesses from different industries to set up their offices here. That brought about International or Private schools being setup to cater to the large expatriate community.

Yellow Pages (YP) Singapore has compiled a list of education institutions and related businesses registered in Singapore. This ranges from MOE administered primary to secondary schools, ITEs, Junior College, University to Private and International Schools.
